The Cebu provincial government will construct another 130 classroom buildings in the province worth P130 million in the next two years.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said her administration is determined to finish the construction of the 130 classroom buildings to lower the classroom backlog in the province.
“Construction of school building is not the primary duty of the provincial government, but there is a need for us to build more classrooms since we are talking here the future of our children,” Garcia said.
For the past years, Garcia had completed the construction of 72 out of 82 classrooms buildings targeted to be completed in the next few months.
Another 130 classroom buildings will be constructed in coordination with Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. the owner of Grand Cement, which has already donated 25,000 bags of cement for the construction of the 82 classroom buildings.
The governor is thankful for the support of the private sector as it helped ease the financial burden on the part of the provincial government and the local government units in the construction of classroom buildings.
Taiheiyo officials have already pledged to donate another batch of cement sacks for the construction of the additional 130 classroom buildings. Each classroom building costs P1 million.
“There are a lot of things to be done, a lot of services to be delivered. Sometimes I get tired but looking at the schoolchildren’s happy faces reminds me that the Cebuanos are worth working for,” Garcia said. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
