More than 100 women yesterday attended the culmination of the month-long celebration of the “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women”.
Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 information officer Jaybee Carillo said that the theme for this year’s celebration which is “CEDAW ng Bayan: Yaman at Kababaihan, Karunungan, Kakayahan at Kaugalian” focuses on the need to generate resources to finance initiatives on gender equality and the improvement of women.
The use of CEDAW in the theme, Carillo said, is a play on the Tagalog word for “cry” which is “sigaw”.
During the program, Paz Torlao who sits as chairwoman of the Bantay Banay Inter-Agency Coordinating Council made a speech on the sharing of best practices under the program.
UP professor Rhodora Bucoy presented a Gender and Development Analysis and Situationer of Central Visayas for the strategic planning of the different agencies involved.
