5,000 witness different kind of Sugat in Argao

-

Around 5,000 spectators witnessed the modern Easter celebration in Argao town yesterday.

The story of Christ’s Passion was portrayed between two other plays and then towards the climax of the presentation.

The most breathtaking part, according to most of the spectators, was the dramatic singing of the “Regina Coeli” by the angel as he slowly descended from the 40-foot belfry of the St. Michael Shrine to unveil the statue of Mother Mary.

A five-minute fireworks display served as the finishing touch of the presentation prior to the Easter Mass celebrated by Msgr. Jose Montecillo.

“This is the day the Lord has made for our renewal.  Sa mga nakakita sa pasundayag, maarang-arang unta ang inyong kinabuhi, mao kanay atong tumong, nga daghan kita og makat-unan,” Montecillo said in his homily.

He said one is easily defeated by trials due to lack of words and faith.

“Ganahan ko kay naa juy naigo adto nga mga stories, maka-relate kaayo ang mga nanan-aw,” according to Hannah Roble, who came all the way from Alcoy town with her family to witness the Sugat.

She said the angel, portrayed by television personality, Undoy Z, was also positively out of the conventional.

According to her, the “unveiling part” was always done by a female, either a child or an adult.

The first play was about a father, who was looked up to by his family, who received a bribe of P500 to vote for a congressman. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP
