Irked guard shoots dead man in revelry

A 29-year-old security guard shot to death a man with whom he got into an argument over the “noise” that the latter created while drinking with some friends at barangay Cantao-an in Naga City Thursday evening.

The guard, Danilo Aranas Gako, surrendered to the police and the shotgun he used in the shooting while the victim, Marlon Maramar, was declared dead on arrival at the South General Hospital.

Police accounts stated that Gako, of the Assault Security Agency, was assigned to guard a company establishment in the area. Maramar, a resident of the barangay, was with a group drinking and singing near the where Gako was posted.

Naga City policeman PO1 Ken Cabrera said Gako approached the group and ordered them to stop singing loudly and making noises because it was already late in the evening.

This angered Maramar who stood up and challenged Gako to a fistfight. The guard responded by getting his shotgun, and shot Maramar in the face. It was not clear yet whether the two grappled for the gun first before the shooting.

Gako is set to be charged tomorrow at the city prosecutor’s office. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
