Gwen gives schoolbuildings, donations to Bantayan towns

A festival-like greeting welcomed Governor Gwen Garcia in Bantayan Island where she and Rep. Benhur Salimbangon (Cebu, fourth district) turned over a new schoolbuilding, among other donations, in the three towns of the island recently.

Garcia was in a two-day visit and yesterday, she and Salimbangon were at the Madridejos Community College for the turnover of the two-classroom building.

The provincial government has turned over a total of six classroom buildings in the three towns amounting to P3.3 million or at a cost of P550,000 per classroom, including one for the Sta. Fe National High School.

The Patao Elementary School in Bantayan town will have an additional six-classroom building, the four classrooms of which will be donated by the province and the other two to be built with the congressional fund of Salimbangon.

The governor and municipal officials also opened the 1.8-kilometer Bunagan Road, worth P6.8 million, at barangay Bunagan in Madridejos.

Madridejos Mayor Salvador dela Fuente, who described his town as a developing town, thanked the Capitol for the projects and the donations, including the 20 computer sets for the Community College. Salimbangon, for his part, donated 10 computer sets for the various high schools in Madridejos.

On Wednesday, the governor was in Sta. Fe and Bantayan towns where she led the ceremonial distribution of GSIS group accident insurance for barangay tanods, lupons tagapamayapa, barangay health workers, and day care workers.

The Early Childhood Care Development, consisting of a supplemental feeding program for day care establishments, and the GWEN program for women empowerment were also launched by Garcia in these two towns.

In Bantayan town, the 8.11-kilometer road, worth P31.5 million, spanning three barangays was inaugurated.

In Sta. Fe, the provincial government also turned over to the town a mini-dumptruck, a mini-ambulance, a fire truck, and a microscope.  — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/RAE
