The police are now hunting down a man who allegedly hacked his cousin he accused of stealing his hen in sitio Catap in barangay Banlot, Sibonga the other night.
Police reports said the suspect, Demosthenes Padin, struck 20-year-old Joseph Padin with a long-bladed weapon and wounded the latter’s right biceps and left portion of the waist.
The rift between the two cousins started when Demosthenes confronted Joseph about the stolen hen, an accusation that drove Joseph to get mad.
At around 10pm that Friday, when Joseph and his companion went home from watching a television show in their neighbor’s house, Demosthenes suddenly appeared and attacked Joseph.
Sibonga policeman SPO1 Ramuel Banugon said Demosthenes went into hiding after the incident but is now the subject of a police manhunt.
Banugon, however, believed that the suspect did not intend to kill Joseph and that the attack was only meant to teach the victim a lesson. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
