Malaysian brings “Technologenius” project to Cebu

-

A Malaysian multinational cross-media operator is bringing to the Philippines its award-winning initiatives aimed at promoting youth development.

Johan Farid Khairuddin, head of the Regional Youth Projects of ASTRO All Asia Networks, recently visited the country and Cebu City to establish linkages with local government units and institutions that would help ASTRO execute its initiatives here.

ASTRO was among the organizations recognized in the 2007 ASEAN TAYO (Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations) for its “Technologenius” project. Last year’s awarding ceremony was held at the Cebu International Convention Center.

The Technologenius project was undertaken to gather youths who can “push the boundaries even further” through innovative ideas that can help make lives better through information and communication technologies.

September last year, the team from KDU College-Petaling Jaya Campus clinched the Astro Technologenius 2007 finals, which enabled the team to represent Malaysia in the Global Forum on Youth and ICT in Geneva, Switzerland.

Khairuddin said they believe that apart from Malaysia, there are untapped potentials of the youth in the ASEAN, thus the decision to bring the initiative to India and the Philippines.

He said the initiative has been very successful in Malaysia and ASTRO is willing to “replicate” the success here in the country.  Joeberth M. Ocao/MEEV
