Four unidentified men staged two successive robberies Sunday night, stabbing the first victim to death without getting any money and succeeded in taking a cell phone and P1,000 cash from the next victim.
Senior Inspector Romeo Santander, Minglanilla Police Station chief, said the first victim was 25-year-old Jimmy Alianit, a resident of the barangay who was robbed while driving his passenger multicab then stabbed by the four when he failed to give them money.
Alianit sustained three stab wounds to the left chest, and right and left arms, and was declared dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital.
The robbers were Alianit’s passengers who boarded his multicab in Cebu City. Upon reaching barangay Lower Calajuan in Minglanilla, when they were the only passengers left, the robbers struck with one of them started by asking first for cigarettes from him.
When he refused, the four men declared a holdup. He still refused to give any money and this prompted them to stab him thrice.
Hours after the robbery and killing of Alianit, or at about 11:30pm, the four, according to the police, struck again and this time at barangay Tunghaan of the town.
Their victims were 25-year-old Jessie Patron, and his female companion. They were walking together in the area when the four arrived and declared a holdup. The two did not resist and Patron gave his cell phone, worth P4,500, and wallet containing his driver’s license and P1,000 cash.
Santander told The Freeman that the Minglanilla police had already identified the perpetrators who, he said, were reputed robbers in the area. He said a follow-up operation has been conducted for their arrest. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
