DOLE to labor groups: Register to join WINAP

Labor groups and unions should first register with the Department of Labor and Employment prior to the extension of the workers income augmentation program.

DOLE regional director Elias Cayanong said WINAP is extended primarily to organized workers in the formal sector to help them engage in business that would provide them additional sources of income, and employment for their family members.

Unorganized workers may also avail but they have to be assisted by their accredited partners.

Under this program, minimum wage earners and other low-income workers in private establishments without leaving their current jobs will be assisted in setting up livelihood undertakings.

Cayanong said the program will enable the workers group to organize a business or a livelihood venture wherein they could also employ their kin or family members.

Assistance will be provided for the formation of project management team which will direct and supervise the daily operation of the business while they are in their respective jobs.

The program would provide service through the unions and Accredited Partners aimed at developing the capacity of the workers to collectively start and manage.

In Central Visayas, the minimum daily wage rate for non-agricultural or industrial workers is P241 in Class A local governments, and P225 for Class B LGUs.

Class A LGUs are the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Danao, Talisay, Naga, and Carcar, and the towns of Minglanilla, San Fernando, Liloan, Consolacion, Cordova and Compostela.

Those in Class B are Toledo City and rest of the towns in Cebu except for those in Bantayan and Camotes islands. — Ferliza C. Contratista/RAE
