Speeding bus kills boy

A speeding passenger bus ran over a six-year-old boy in sitio Combado, barangay Bagay, Daanbantayan town yesterday morning.

Daanbantayan police said the boy, identified as Kent Lloyd Anosa, was rushed to the Daanbantayan District Hospital but died later because of his severe injuries. SPO3 Fe Clarisa said that the victim was last seen playing with other children at the roadside.

The passenger bus marked “Ecstasy” that killed the boy is reportedly owned and operated by D’ Rough Riders plying the Maya, Daanbantayan-Cebu North Bus Terminal route.

The driver, identified as Gerard Omolon of barangay Pardo, said he did not see any child cross the road, but felt the rear portion of the bus hit something. Upon realizing that he hit a boy, he sped away for fear that bystanders and relatives of the victim might maul him. 

Omolon surrendered at the Bogo Police Station. He was later turned over to the Daanbantayan police for the filing of appropriate charges.

It was learned that the parents of the victim met with the management of the bus company to settle the damages and get the help they need for the burial of the child. - Edwin Ian Melecio/MEEV
