At least 11 persons were injured in two highway accidents in Carcar City and Dalaguete town last Wednesday.
In the first incident, which happened at around 4 p.m., a Jegans bus slammed into a hill in sitio Tan-awan, barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City, injuring seven of its passengers.
The bus, with plate number GXD-545, reportedly experienced a mechanical problem while it was on its way to Aloguinsan town from Cebu City. To avoid collision, the driver managed to swing off the bus, but it instead rammed into the hill.
Those injured were identified as Rhea Hilaria, 4; Vicenta Patatag, 62; Sesama Portolaso, 44; and Ike Genayas of Aloguinsan town; Josie Endrina, 25, of Boljo-on town; Melchor Teleron, 41, of Argao town; and Esperanza dela Torre, 64, of P. del Rosario Ext. Cebu City.
The victims were rushed to the Carcar City District Hospital but were later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
At about 6 p.m. three people were injured when a Honda MC XRM bearing plate number PN GD-5741 collided with a tricycle along the National Road of barangay Banhigan, Dalagute.
According to the report, the Honda motorcycle, which was driven by Michael Otom, collided with the tricycle driven by Demetrio Navarra.
Otom was driving through barangay Banhigan while Navarra was traveling on the opposite side going through sitio Cambangyao, barangay Poblacion. But because of the high speed, the two vehicles accidentally hit each other.
Those injured were immediately brought to a hospital in Cebu City. — Garry B. Lao/LPM
