The first leg of this year’s Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, will kick-off today and will end on Friday wherein more than 100 balikbayans will be joining Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Ma. Mona Clarita Zosa, who heads the secretariat of the Cebu Provincial Tourism and Heritage Council said that it is the aim of the provincial government to promote its tourism destinations among the balikbayans.
This Southern Heritage Trail will again highlight the best of Cebuano culture, heritage and tourism sites in more than 20 towns.
Zosa said that this year’s Suroy-Suroy Sugbo will cover first district towns Minglanilla, San Fernando and Sibonga and second district towns Dalaguete, Santander, Argao, Alcoy, Malabuyoc, Badian, Oslob, Ginatilan, Alegria, Dumanjug, Alcantara, Boljoon, Ronda, Samboan and Moalboal.
Zosa said that balikbayans can expect this year’s Southern Heritage Trail of the Suroy-Suroy caravan to be better than the previous one as there will more festival dancing and more displays of Cebuano delicacies.
Junjet Primor, capitol consultant on culture and performing arts, earlier emphasized the guidelines for the cultural presentations of each town to showcase that which is purely Cebuano - be it in music, dance, poetry, food or others. - Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP
