Margot tops online survey for mayoralty post in 2008

Mayor Tomas R. Osmena’s wife Margot has emerged the most popular choice to be the next city mayor in 2010, according to results of an online survey done by some people using the city’s official website.

The survey also gathered that those who chose Margot explained that they chose her to be certain that the unfinished projects initiated by Tomas would be finished by her once she becomes the next city mayor.

Those who initiated the survey put up four choices: Vice Mayor Michael Rama, Margot Osmena, Joy Augustus Young and Winston Garcia.

Young used to be a city councilor and now mayor Osmena’s consultant for education, while Garcia is the general manager of the Government Service Insurance System and brother of Governor Gwen Garcia.

As of yesterday’s count, nobody has voted for Garcia and Young yet.

One of those who voted for Margot said “I want continuity with mayor Tom’s projects, especially the SRP. Though Mike Rama is good, but it is better for him to take over Tony Cuenco in Congress.”

Cuenco is the congressman of the Cebu City south district and whose term also ends on 2010. “Margot is well qualified to be the next mayor and no doubt cleanliness can also be well handled by her,” another said.

But there is a great challenge if Margot will decide to run as mayor and may win. Those who chose her wished that our sidewalks would be cleared with the illegal vendors and other obstacles. — Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
