Mananga Bridge II scheduled for partial closure for repairs

Only one lane of the Mananga Bridge II in Tabunok, Talisay City will be made passable for city-bound light vehicles starting December 15 because of scheduled repair and maintenance works.

Cebu South Engineering District head Engr. Daisy Toledo said, “Vans, trailers and 10-wheeler trucks shall take the Cebu South Coastal Road passing through the South Reclamation Project,” and city-bound cars, tricycles and motorcycles shall take the one-lane Mananga Bridge II.

Repair and maintenance works of the bridge will run for two to three weeks, and Toledo assured the public that the agency will do its best to shorten further the work duration considering that more motorists than usual are expected to use the bridge during this Christmas season.

Toledo said that an average of 2,000 vehicles use the Mananga Bridge everyday but she added that, during the repairs, traffic enforcers will be detailed to both ends of the bridge to make sure that traffic flow will run as smoothly as possible.

The bridge has to undergo repair and maintenance after reports that illegal quarrying near it might have weakened its structure.

The Department of Public Works and Highways, through Toledo’s office, had admitted it has no police power to arrest illegal quarry operators.  — Ferliza C. Contratista/RAE
