Over 6,000 land jobs through Capitol – PESO
A total of 6, 178 people have gotten jobs here and abroad from January to October this year through the Public Employment Service Office of the Cebu Capitol.
Mathea Baguia, PESO - Capitol manager said that most of those who were deployed were skilled and highly-skilled workers.
“Especially abroad, Filipino workers are highly preferred because we are known in the world as hardworking workers, we have the patience and we can speak and understand the English language,” said Baguia, who is also the chief of the labor and employment department of the Capitol.
She said that every year the provincial government conducts four local and oversees jobs fair.
The last job fair for this year occurred last November 11 wherein 200 applicants were hired on the spot due to the Christmas season.
She said that the PESO office is the safest way to inquire and apply for jobs, especially for those who are eyeing jobs overseas because the PESO office requires recruitment agencies to submit documents to prove their legitimacy before these agencies can post job orders.
“There is an assurance that these recruiters are licensed because we don’t want that our workers will be victimized by illegal recruiters,” Baguia said.
The PESO - Capitol, which is under the office of the governor, became operational with the signing of a MOA on
PESO is a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility or entity established or accredited by DOLE in Local Government Units, state universities and private institutions, non-government organizations, and community-based organizations, pursuant to Republic Act 8759 otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations.
The PESOs are linked to the Regional Office of the Department of Labor and Employment for coordination and technical supervision, and to the DOLE Central Office, to constitute the National Employment Service Network. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/QSB
