Public urged to shop in Carbon

-

Vice Mayor Michael Rama and the market officials in Cebu City yesterday encouraged the public to patronize the products sold by the different business firms and vendors in Carbon market because these are sold cheaper there.

Erwin Goc-ong, chairman of the Cebu Market Vendors Development Cooperative and Maria Buanghog of the Cebu City United Vendors Association, said their members have been instructed to keep their respective areas always clean to encourage more customers.

Carbon police station chief Eliseo Castronuevo said uniformed and plainclothes policemen will be deployed to Carbon market and assisted by the tanods of barangay Ermita.

To encourage more customers in Carbon market, the owners of commercial establishments have decided to hold a so-called “night market” from December 21 to 30, meaning stalls and stores will be open 24 hours.

Expecting customers to being vehicles within these days, Ermita barangay captain Felicisimo Rupinta has already coordinated with the traffic officials to allow parking in Magallanes, Plaridel and P. Lopez Streets at night.

Department of Public Services chief Dionesio Gualiza also vowed to assign garbage collectors in Carbon market to maintain cleanliness, but he also encouraged vendors to impose self-discipline by keeping their own garbage in bags to make it easy for his men to collect them.

Market administrator Raquel Arce also announced that there will be a lantern contest for all business establishments in Carbon market to make the area attractive.   Rene U. Borromeo/BRP
