DA food terminals to open in Inayawan, Sambag II

The Department of Agriculture-7 announced that two Barangay Food Terminals will soon open in Inayawan and Sambag II where basic food items like rice and vegetables are sold at prices up to 12 percent cheaper than those sold in regular retail outlets.

The Barangay Inayawan Food Terminal will be inaugurated this November 20 while the one in Sambag II will be inaugurated on the 26th, according to Geraldine Franza of DA-7.

Franza said that the two barangays were chosen because of their large populations and both have a lot of depressed areas.

Franza added DA has 26 food terminals in other regions.

In a statement, the DA said that the target is to increase the annual income growth of farmers and fisherfolk from the current average of three to four percent to six for the next decade.

To accomplish this goal, the department is implementing a program comprising of higher spending on infrastructure, technology and extension services, building post-harvest storage facilities as well as expanding access to rural credit and opening up new markets here and abroad for local produce.  -Phoebe Jen Indino/BRP
