2 cops accused of starting trouble in Guadalupe bar

-

A woman and a man complained to the Guadalupe Police Station accusing two policemen for misbehavior inside a bar along V. Rama Avenue in barangay Guadalupe Saturday dawn, but the policemen said it was not their fault.

SPO1 Antonio Barade of Guadalupe Police Station identified the two policemen as SPO4 Maximo Taboada and SPO1 Simplicio Mantilla Jr., both assigned to the Police Security Protection Office-7 at the regional police headquarters.

Their civilian companion Ruben Nepumoceno was also accused of the same complaint.

Jokarla Diño, 40, of sitio Langub, barangay Guadalupe and her companion Ananias Labra, 48, of sitio Banawa of the same barangay, went to the police station and accused the policemen of slander by deed and physical injuries.

SPO1 Barade said the incident happened inside the Lola Tikya Acoustic Bar.

The complainants said Taboada approached them in their table and without provocation shoved away Diño’s brother-in-law Ariel Cortez and pulled her hair.

This caused a commotion, prompting Labra to approach them to settle things but the two policemen allegedly mauled him, causing injuries to his face.

Responding elements of Mobile Patrol Group brought the group to the Guadalupe police station.

SPO1 Barade said the two policemen went to their office yesterday to their side of the story.

Taboada said he approached the table where Diño was sitting and politely asked her to dance and the woman reportedly agreed.

But moment later, an unidentified man approached him from behind and shoved him away from Diños and he fell to the floor. Mantilla who saw the incident immediately came to pacify the situation but another man allegedly punched him in the back.

This resulted to more trouble as some people allegedly tried to grab their guns before the MPG arrived. It was not clear whether the two parties were drunk during the incident.

PSPO-7 chief Crisaleo Tolentino said he heard the report from another policeman but have not yet seen the two policemen involved. — Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
