Two minors arrested for robbing men

-

Two minors aged 14 and 16 years old were arrested by elements of the Waterfront police station after they and another minor robbed two men along MacArthur Boulevard in barangay Carreta yesterday dawn.

One of the suspects was a resident of sitio Ponce, barangay Carreta while the other lived in sitio Escaño, barangay Tejero.

The two allegedly robbed Neil Duarte, 28, of Gil Tudtud Street, barangay Mabolo, and Bernard Villorejo who were said to be passing by the area.

According to the police, the two minors along with their unidentified companions approached the victims and one of them shouted: “Hold-up ni ha! Wa’y ‘dagan!” then drew out an ice pick.

Though outnumbered, the victims decided to put up a struggle, but after the suspects and their companion pullet out knives the victims gave up.

The robbers took from Duarte a wristwatch worth P1,600, a T-230 Sony Ericsson mobile phone worth P4,000 and P2,000 cash.

The suspects immediately fled from the area and the victims reported the crime to the Waterfront police station.  A hot pursuit operation headed by SPO2 Rene Cerna along with PO2 Witzel Berry and PO1 Ramil Tanggol led to the arrest of the two minors.

The police failed to recover the stolen items from the victims as they were believed to be with the other companion of the suspects who is still at large.

Meanwhile, a similar incident happened last Saturday dawn at Uytengsu Street in barangay Sambag Uno when a group of youngsters all said to be wearing white t-shirts and believed to be members of a gang robbed two men.

Police identified the victims as Giovanni Aznar, 25, of Ascencion Street and Jason Cañares, 18, a college student and resident of Oyson Compound along Aznar Road of said barangay.

Investigators of the Theft and Robbery Section said the two along with two other friends were walking home from a fast food outlet when eight men who immediately surrounded them.  The men pulled out revolvers and announced a robbery.

Aznar lost his wallet with P1,000 cash, and important identification and ATM cards while Cañares was divested of his cellphone worth P2,000.

The unidentified robbers then walked away casually to the direction of the Abellana National High School, while the victims reported the incident to the police.

Police believe that the robbers could be members of a gang or a fraternity.  — Edwin Ian Melecio/MEEV
