DSWD monitoring child workers in pyro factories
The Department of Social Welfare and Development will be monitoring children working in pyrotechnic factories in
DSWD Social Welfare Officer IV Emma Patalinghug said since Christmas is fast approaching, they are doubling their drive to protect children from the hazards and danger of firecrackers.
“DSWD will be doubling its efforts with the help of barangay officials and we will be tightening the belt this time to avoid any accidents as there have been reports of accidents like these involving children,” she said.
She added that cases of children working in pyrotechnic factories are very rampant in
Patalinghug said the magnitude of child labor problems has already grown to unprecedented proportions that it has to be addressed by all sectors of society.
Some of the worst forms of child labor are found in deep sea fishing, domestic service, prostitution, sugarcane plantation, quarrying and pyrotechnic factories.
Because of this, a team called Sagip Batang Manggagawa Quick Action Team has been formed to address all forms of child labor in the country.
