Junnie to make Bogo a tourist destination

-

In his State of the City Address, Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junnie” Martinez, Jr. said that the city government is geared at making Bogo a tourist destination in the north and center for livestock trading for the province of Cebu and neighboring provinces.

Martinez said that in the more than 100 days of his administration, the city government has implemented a number of projects aimed at supporting the city’s program to promote tourism and business related activities.

He added that when he assumed office last July 1, a number of divers who visited him acknowledged the need to develop the Capitancillo Islet as a world-class diving site.

Right after receiving the feedback, the city mayor said, that his administration tapped the technical services of a beach resort developer in Sogod town to help develop the site. He vowed the city will appropriate funds for the establishment of facilities there.

Martinez also cited the need for the city government to establish linkages with agencies and other sectors engaged in tourism programs.

He said that the city government created the City Tourism Commission. Its members have been tasked to form a body that will lead in the formulation of plans, policies and strategies that will promote Bogo City as a tourist destination.

He also assured the people of Bogo that the city government will open more road networks to tourism sites and encourage investments.

Also, the city government considers the expansion of the public market and an additional area for growing investments in the present facility as well as the procurement of a cold storage equipment.

He also acknowledged the need to improve the livestock market of barangay San Antonio by installing a storage facility in order to accommodate growing livestock trading in the area with the improvement of existing structures and facilities.

Although, the city government is now more focused on the development of tourism, Martinez assured his constituents that the city will implement programs to improve agriculture in order to improve farmers’ productivity.

In the first 100 days of his administration, Martinez added that he also prioritized the implementation of programs related to health, education and sports development.

However, he said, he would continue to appeal to the people of Bogo City for their continued support to the programs envisioned by his administration. – Jose P. Sollano/MEEV
