Three unidentified robbers stabbed a woman then ran away after divesting five other passengers of their cash and valuables inside a passenger jeepney near the Kinalumsan Bridge along Natalio Bacalso Avenue yesterday dawn.
The wounded victim, Edna Mejoc of barangay Tabunok, got three stab wounds in her back when she refused to yield her cellular phone, worth P2000. The robbers, however, still managed to get the cellphone she was protecting.
The jeepney driver, Rolando Casona, immediately took Mejoc to the Cebu City Medical Center while the police team, led by SPO1 Joseph Toring, gave chase but failed to catch the robbers who reportedly escaped through the Kinalumsan River.
Mambaling Police investigators said the jeepney (plate no. GWP-769) came from Colon Street and was bound for barangay Bulacao. The robbers posed as passengers who boarded the jeepney at an area near the bridge of Kinalumsan.
As the jeepney reached the bridge, the three men suddenly declared a hold-up and robbed the passengers of their belongings at knife point.
The other robbery victims, besides Mejoc, were Nanette Bastatas of Minglanilla who lost her bag and silver earrings, Geraldine Luna of barangay Bulacao who lost her bag containing P3,000 and cell phone, Lord Latonio who lost his wallet, and Roel Abella who lost his cell phone. — Flor Z. Perolina/RAE
