All fifteen Provincial Board members may be driving their new vehicles anytime this week.
This after Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. approved the release of about P21 million for the purchase of the new cars for the provincial legislators.
Board member Wenceslao Gakit, chairman of the committee on appropriations, yesterday said that the P21 million intended for the procurement of new cars came from the general fund of Sanchez.
Of the four bidders, Toyoto Cars Corp. won the bidding. The car company will provide each board member a brand new Toyota Hilux worth P1.36 million each.
The other bidders who joined the bidding were Isuzu, Ford and Mitsubishi.
Gakit said that Sanchez has not yet decided on what car to buy but reportedly prefers the Isuzu Alterra.
The Provincial Board approved the general appropriations of Sanchez during their out-of-town session in Carcar town last August.
Currently, Sanchez is using an Isuzu Trooper as his service vehicle while the board members are using Isuzu Fuegos.
The above cars were issued to them by the provincial government more than five years ago, said Gakit. — Gerome M. Dalipe/BRP
