Police identify one of drive-by shooters
The identified assailant was reportedly the man riding pillion on the motorcycle as the other one drove.
Inspector Mario Monilar, chief of the Homicide Section, told reporters that witnesses and the survivors positively identified the assailant, who was also involved in the September 21 shooting of a sign artist and wounding of three of his friends in barangay Parian.
Investigators are convinced that the latest shootings, carried out on the anniversary of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, was the work of members of the rival fraternity, the Alpha Kappa Rho.
Monilar also confirmed that one of those injured Mhako Buenconsejo, 18, shot in the neck while walking along
Some of the victims who survived could also be members of Tau Gamma but are not willing to admit it, Monilar said.
“Based on the investigation,
The CCPO has already started maximum deployment of policemen on the streets, conducting saturation drives, prioritizing mobile checkpoints that already resulted in the arrest of fifteen men for various offenses, most of them minor violations.
Meanwhile, Comendador admitted that giving rewards for information on wanted fratmen can be useful, this is after some relatives of the victims reportedly offered cash for the arrest of the assailants.
“Labing maayo kung naay cash reward because it will support the efforts of the police and we always take things in a positive way, kana bang insulto sa polis ang paghatag og rewards, on the other way around mas mapadali ang pagsulbad sa cases because there will be more witnesses to come forward,” said Comendador.
The police now have three cartographic sketches of the gunmen involved in the September 29 and October 4 drive-by-shootings.
