Tom: Bacolod better than Roderos

-

Mayor Tomas Osmeña is not happy with the appointment of Chief Superintendent Ronald Roderos as the new regional police chief.

“I’ve heard he’s good… I did not recommend him because they said the other guy is better,” he said.  He did not elaborate on this point.

When reports about the reassignment of outgoing PRO-7 chief Silverio Alarcio came out, Osmeña openly supported Bacolod, who hails from Madridejos town, to the position.

The mayor had announced several times in the past that he wants the top officials of police in the city to be from Cebu because they know better the situation here.  Roderos is from Luzon but is married to a Cebuana, he has been assigned in Cebu for seven years and once served as Cebu City police chief.

Osmeña also said he will continue to support the regional police office even his personal choice was not the one appointed.

“Yeah, for now.  I really don’t know,” he said.

Meanwhile, Roderos yesterday said that he was happy with his new position considering that it was every general’s dream to be assigned to a top position.

With his rise to being the new PRO-7 director, Roderos also announced yesterday that his vacated position, the regional deputy director for administration, will be filled up by Sr. Supt. Federico Terte, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1977.

Terte was formerly assigned as deputy director of the Eastern Police District before he was appointed to fill up Roderos’ position.  He will start to hold office on Monday since he will still be attending a seminar on his duties this week.

Roderos also said yesterday that even with his assumption to his new post, things will remain as is unless there is a need to modify them.  As such all instructions and directives of former PRO-7 director Silverio Alarcio are still in effect and there is no seen need for a revamp as of the moment.

He also said that in the days to come he will be visiting all the police stations here in Central Visayas.

Roderos yesterday also said that among his priorities now is to continue the programs and thrust of the PNP with the emphasis on the directives of newly-installed PNP Chief Avelino Razon.  Razon also served as PRO-7 director a few years back.

Roderos said among Razon’s priorities is to restore the “old glory” of the policeman who served and protect the people. -Wenna A. Berondo and Flor Z. Perolina /BRP
