The Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Cebu City Chapter has agreed to provide free legal assistance and paralegal training for policemen here in Cebu.
National Police Commission – 7 director Bernardo Calibo met with IBP- Cebu City Chapter president Briccio Boholst last Friday to discuss the alliance.
Napolcom spokesman Zandro Oriol revealed that during the meeting, the representatives of the two entities discussed the strengthening of the existing IBP Legal Aid program for policemen who are facing harassment cases.
Napolcom has offered the free use of an air conditioned room in their office for an IBP legal aid practitioner. The agency’s nulti-purpose hall will also be used for the paralegal training for policemen.
Although there are still some aspects of the program that have yet to be ironed out, Calibo and Boholst are optimistic that the program can start the soonest.
Oriol said that Napolcom will also be coordinating with other IBP chapters in the region so that policemen from other provinces can also avail of the free legal aid program. — Flor Z. Perolina/QSB
