PB set to authorize governor to sign bldg lease with NSO-7

The Provincial Board is expected to approve today a resolution authorizing Governor Gwen Garcia to enter into a contract with the National Statistics Office-7 for the latter’s lease of the two-storey Eco-Tech building in Sudlon, barangay Lahug.

The contract was for NSO-7, through regional director Lilia Tandoc, to lease the province-owned building and its lot at P300,000 monthly over a 16-month period, starting on August 16, 2007 until December 31, 2008.

PB members Juan Bolo and Wenceslao Gakit, sponsors of the proposed resolution, said that the contract may be renewed after but on a yearly basis already.

The contract further stipulates that NSO-7, upon permission of the province, may at its own expense introduce improvements, maintain and install lightings and fixtures, among others which should not be removed anymore and would automatically belong to the provincial government.

NSO-7 office closed last month its operations at its office on M. J. Cuenco Avenue to pave the way for its transfer to the building in Lahug that was previously occupied by the Cebu Provincial Health Office.

With the temporary closure of the NSO-7 office, the public is diverted to its satellite offices in the cities of Talisay, Danao, Bogo and Carcar, and the town of Argao and Dalaguete.

The transfer of NSO-7 office was also intended to eradicate fixers that have been preying on people who wanted to obtain copies of civil registry documents, among others. — Garry B. Lao/RAE
