Council directs VECO to remove awry posts off Banilad highway

-

The City Council has ordered the Visayan Electric Company to remove immediately at least three awkwardly-situated posts at the Banilad area, before the flyover construction or the road widening project starts.

The most prominently misplaced electric post is the one at A.S. Fortuna Street and Gov. Cuenco Avenue in Banilad that was left to stand in the middle of the intersection.

A road was constructed there before for right-turning vehicles but this also altered completely the location of the previous sidewalk where the post used to stand. Authorities however just let it stand there and built an “island” around it instead.

Councilor Augustus Pe Jr. made a sketch of the posts’ location so that VECO would be able to identify which of the posts the council has been talking about.

The councilor further told VECO’s vice president for engineering Raul Lucero about the other two posts in an awkward position of the road. These are the one beside Foodland and the other from across the road.

Lucero in turn suggested that VECO be given copies of the program of works and estimates for the flyover project so that the company would be able to determine correctly the positions of posts that would be installed there later on.

Veco spokesperson Ethel Natera added that VECO will comply with the city’s request, but there might be some delays until a site is found for the relocation of these posts.

Pe said the owner of Foodland has already agreed that part of his property at the corner of A. S. Fortuna Street and Gov. Cuenco Avenue be slashed to make it easier for vehicles to go to Ma. Luisa Park.

A similar move would be made across Foodland also to make it easy for the right-turning vehicles coming from Mandaue City for Talamban. — Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
