Mid-north towns on full alert
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Carmelo Valmoria has placed the mid-north area on “full alert status,” while the rest of the towns and cities in the province on “heightened alert status.”
In his July 28 memorandum addressed to all chiefs of police of different municipalities and cities in the province and to the 703rd Provincial Mobile Group, Valmoria said the red alert status is upgraded from normal to full alert after the reported “persistent sightings of armed men believed to be Communist terrorists planning to conduct nefarious activities here at any opportune time - just like attacks on police stations and the burning of buses and cell sites in the past.”
Valmoria reminded all police chiefs to conduct counter-measures by strengthening the physical defense of their stations and precincts.
Valmoria ordered the hoisting of full alert status over the towns of Asturias, Tuburan, Tabuelan, Tabogon, Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela and the city of Danao, which are all situated in the mid-north area.
He also ordered the issuance of “appropriate logistical requirements needed for both defensive and offensive combat operations.”
The provincial police director also told police chiefs to establish advance security control points, enhance information detection efforts through the help of the Barangay Intelligence Networks, and intensify checkpoints and mobile patrols in their respective areas. — Flor Z. Perolina/MEEV
