Sec. Gonzales eyes calamity areas as tourist spots
Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales is toying with the idea of making tourist attractions out of the damage wrought by typhoons, landslides and other natural disasters.
This as he also warned local chief executives of the different cities and municipalities to identify landslide-prone areas in their respective areas to prepare for any calamities.
“Marami ang gusto makita kung anong mangyari kapag may mangyari na landslide, typhoon at ibang kalamidad,”Gonzales said as he spoke before during the opening ceremonies of the two-day National Forum on Disaster Management for Local Chief Executives.
He jokingly added that if other countries can have man-made wonders as tourist attractions, we can also have nature-made wonders do the same for us.
DILG Undersecretary Joselito Ruiz said the people should realize that they are the big contributors to the calamities happening in the country today.
He said denuded mountains and destruction of marine resources are causing the environmental problems encountered by the people today.— Jose P. Sollano/BRP
