A member of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity was shot dead in Mandaue City yesterday while a member of their rival fraternity the Tau Gamma Phi was also injured.
Mandaue City police station 1 chief Abraham Ocampo said the Akrho member, who remained unidentified as of last night, was shot twice in the head by a man on a motorcycle around 3:15 a.m. yesterday in sitio Abra, barangay Alang-Alang.
Based on their initial investigation, the assailant was said to be a member of the Tau Gamma using a revolver.
Around 7:45 a.m. that same day, former Cebu Gems basketball player and Tau Gamma member Leif Villarin was shot by an assailant inside his girlfriend’s house in Perez Compound, Plaridel St., of the same barangay.
Ocampo said that Villarin’s girlfriend, Charisse Etulla, 20, who reported the incident to their station, said that an unknown man managed to enter her house.
But since they were inside her room, the gunman was not able to find them and fired randomly at different parts of the house, Villarin was shot in the abdomen while Etulla was grazed in the head.
Ocampo said that they are still trying to determine if the two incidents are related.
Villarin was brought to Mandaue City District Hospital and was later transferred to a private hospital. He is the son of SPO2 Protacio Villarin who is assigned to the Mabolo Police Station in Cebu City. — Mitchelle P. Calipayan/BRP
