An ex-convict was shot and killed by two motorcycle-riding men while talking with his friends at the roadside in Arlington Pond in barangay Sambag II yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Donald “Dondon” Caballes, 31, a resident of the place.
Based on the investigation conducted by police investigator Jay Yballe, the victim was talking with his three friends, one of whom was a minor carrying a fighting cock which he was selling.
But the two assailants, who were wearing mask, arrived and opened fire several times, hitting the victim in different parts of his body before they immediately fled towards Osmeña Boulevard.
The victim’s companions scampered for safety but the minor was still hit in his right ear.
Yballe said the killing could have been the handiwork of suspected vigilantes or it may have stemmed from personal grudge since the victim had many enemies in the neighborhood.
Yballe also said the victim was detained for robbery and theft, and was released from jail last year. —Flor Z. Perolina/LPM
