- Edwin Ian Melecio -

Two women were been pistol-whipped by an armed man who robbed them yesterday dawn at the corner of F. Gonzalez and Escario streets in barangay Camputhaw.

Kerstin Hermoso Gimena, 20, of La Guardia, barangay Lahug and her friend, Karen Suson Manayaga, 20, of sitio Maracas, Lahug, reported to the Theft and Robbery Section of the Cebu City Police Office that they were walking along the street when they noticed two men tailing them onboard a red motorcycle.

When they reached the said place, the motorcycle overtook and stopped in front of them.

The passenger disembarked, approached Manayaga and said: “Cell phone lang miss.”

Gimena grabbed the bag of Manayaga but the man pulled out a handgun and pistol-whipped Gimena in the abdomen. The robber then grabbed the shoulder bag of Manayaga and then struck her in the chest, sending her to ground.

The man returned to the bike and he and his driver sped away.

It was the second incident this month that the robbers hurt their victims.

Last May 22, robbers onboard a blue motorcycle dragged a woman along Edison St. in barangay Apas after she refused to surrender her bag.

Lourdes Flores Mendoza, of Torralba Street of the said barangay, was walking near St. Therese Parish Church when the robbers grabbed her bag.

The victim said the plate number of the said motorcycle was GS-9107.

Last Saturday morning two men on a motorcycle robbed Bernardita Fernandez Cabido, 42, of Mars Street in Villa Cristina Subdivision, barangay Punta Princesa while she walking along F. Gonzalez in barangay Camputhaw.

She lost her bag worth P1,000, a cell phone worth P11,000, a Louis Vuitton wallet worth P1,200 and P500 cash.

Theft and Robbery Section chief Alexis Relado said they are expecting an upsurge in petty crimes with the opening of classes and he has ordered more patrols in the streets.

City police chief Patrocinio Comendador said that he will realign the beat patrols and order more patrols in crime-prone areas especially during evening and dawn.  Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
