Man mauled, stabbed to death in Guadalupe

He was on his way to a benefit dance in sitio Lower Kalunasan in barangay Guadalupe yesterday dawn but, upon reaching a bridge, this 28-year-old man got beaten up and stabbed to death instead.

Ronnie Suico, who resided along Modesta Street in the barangay, suffered bruises and contusions, and several stab wounds in his abdomen. He died hours later while being treated in the hospital.

Homicide investigators, led by PO3 Henry Orbiso, said Suico met a group of men who apparently waylaid him supposedly to prevent him from going to the dance.

A brief fight ensued and while Suico got beaten up, a member of the group reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the victim repeatedly until he slumped on the ground.

Suico’s cousin, Pedrito Batucan, rushed him to the Cebu City Medical Center but he died hours later.

SPO2 Carlito Lirasan responded to the alarm but the attackers had already left the area. A 13-inch knife, allegedly used in the stabbing, was however found from the crime scene.

The police identified the suspect as a certain Awing Gabisay, who remains at large. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
