Policemen of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 arrested a man for possession of an unlicensed firearm at barangay Lagtang in Talisay City yesterday noon.
The arrest of Edwin Cabier came after some barangay residents complained about his habit of brandishing a gun every time he got drunk.
The CIDG-7 team, led by Chief Inspector Fermin Armendares III, went to the barangay with a search warrant, issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Fortunato de Gracia, against Cabier.
Authorities seized from Cabier’s house a .357 caliber revolver with six live ammunitions, and he failed to show the license for owning it.
Cabier however defended by saying that he bought the gun for protection, after he noticed that some unidentified men were seemingly lurking near his house. He suspected them to be robbers who were waiting for their chances so he had to be prepared.
The suspect also told Armendares that his neighbors got jealous of his family when his daughter married an American who later funded the construction of their new 3-storey house in the place.
The police will be filing a case against Cabier for alleged violation of Republic Act 8294, or the law against possession of illegal firearm. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
