Muslim Affairs Office eyes low-cost housing

Muslims here will soon be involved in a low-cost housing project in the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay, according to Office of Muslim Affairs regional director Sakiran Hajan.

Hajan said the Cebu City government is convinced of the need to adopt his proposal, but advised that the sites and sources of funds be discussed after the election period.

"We want sites and if the four cities do not have funds maybe we can tap the help of the national government or rich Muslim countries," he said.

However, Hajan bared there is no written agreement yet on the project. But he vowed to work on the proposal when the election is over.

Other concerns that leaders of the Muslim community in Cebu would like to raise are the construction of Al-Quran reading centers, and Cebu-Saudi Arabia direct flights for pilgrims from Mindanao and Central Visayas who would like to visit Mecca during Ramadan. – Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
