Cebu City south district congressional aspirant Jonathan Guardo had accused reelectionist Mayor Tomas Osmeña of violating the election laws.
Guardo alleged that the mayor had given P50,000 and karaoke machine to every chapel in barangay Lahug and distributed P3000 to every official of barangay Tabunan.
Mayor Osmeña denied the allegations saying, "Binoang ni. Kadako ba sa amount, makahimo na man ni og balay." He added that if ever there was money given out, it might come from his "die-hard supporters," but then he has no prior knowledge to this.
The mayor also denied he gave money to officials of Tabunan but he admitted that the city government had given financial assistance to the victims in the Tabunan accident.
Osmeña said the city gave P21,000 for the hospital bills and he had a receipt to show this. For the fatality, the city gave P10,000 for the casket and another P5,000 to refund the expenses of the barangay captain who helped the victims.  Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
