Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit nurse Reynan Cimafranca said the diarrhea outbreak has already downed 63 residents from the two barangays. These residents, he said have been brought to nearby hospitals for medication and that no fatality has been reported yet.
Cimafranca said the department believes contaminated water caused the diarrhea outbreak, which started in the last week of March.
He said their investigation revealed the presence of e-coli bacteria in the water source in barangay Colasi.
To prevent the upsurge of diarrhea cases, the DOH has been teaching residents to dispose of their wastes properly and the proper chlorination of water.
The DOH has already recommended to municipal officials to rehabilitate the water system after finding that there are leaks in the pipes. - Jasmin R. Uy/QSB
