No forced entry, househelp a suspect?: 2 robbers kill German, wife in Bohol

- Ramil V. Ayuman -
Baclayon, Bohol - This usually peaceful town woke up to a gruesome reality yesterday when a German national and his Filipina wife were killed in a pre-dawn robbery.

Helmut Malinka, a 65-year-old retired airline maintenance engineer was found dead inside his roon while his Boholana wife, Eutiquia Missiona Malinka, 59, was found dead inside the guest room of the house in barangay Laya, Baclayon town.

Baclayon, which is on the southeastern side of the island province and is about 20 minutes from the capital city of Tagbilaran, is home to one of the oldest churches in the country.

The Malinka couple had been married for 35 years, but had no children. They had been residing in Baclayon for almost four years now.

Helmut, who was hogtied, sustained three gunshot wounds on the head and eight stab wounds on his chest while Eutiquia sustained two stab wounds on the neck and chest.

The German was found inside his bedroom while Eutiquia was found in the guestroom.

"Gubot kaayo ang mga butang sud sa room ni Mrs. Malinka morag dunay sila gipangita," police authorities said.

Cash and jewelry are believed to have been taken. The police and relatives were still checking the house to find out what we lost in the robbery.

SPO3 Bonifacio Paredes, chief of police in Baclayon town, said they suspect the involvement of a certain Virginia Saluta, who was recently hired as housemaid of Malinka couple.

"Maglisod pa ug tubag si Saluta kay naa pa siya sa trauma," (Saluta still has a hard time answering since she is still traumatized) Paredes said.

A relative of Eutiquia however said, "makaduda man sab kaayo kay niadtong Huwebes pa siya na sud isip katabang unya pagka gabii naa dayon nahitabo sa akong paryente. Unya kadudahan kaayo nganong dali kaayo nakasud ang mga tulisan." (You would really doubt her since she was hired only last Thursday and that same night something happened. It is also very puzzling how come the robbers got inside so easily.)

Saluta told the police that she heard Helmut shout for help, but she claimed that she was also hogtied by the robbers, who she described were wearing bonnets.

"Nahadlok gyud ko sir, gani nitago ko sa CR pero gihulga ko nga pusilon kun dili mogawas sa CR. Gigaid ko nila sir ug wala gyud koy nahimo," (I was very scared sir, in fact I hid inside the comfort room but they threatened to shoot me if I would not get ouit. They tied me up and there was nothing I could do) Saluta said.

"Basta igo ra sila niingon nga mga akyat bahay mi ug nangita sila sa kwarta gibutang. Maglisod gyud ko ug identify nila kay nakuyawan gyud ko, basta ang usa ka tulisan mag-Tagalog ug ang usa Bisaya," (They just said that they were robbers and were looking for the money. I could not identify them since I was very scared. One of them spoke Tagalog, the other was Visayan) she added.

Police authorities suspect that the two robbers entered the house past 2 o''clock early dawn.

What the baffles the police is the absence of any sign of forced entry, which is why they suspect the involvement of the housemaid and they plan to hold her for further questioning.

SPO3 Paredes said that the Bohol Provincial Police Office will conduct a joint investigation with the National Bureau of Investigation. - (/NLQ)
