March 30, 2007 | 12:00am
The Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines and the Department of Education are inviting elementary pupils, aged eight to 10 years old, to join a drawing contest on how children view gender equality.
Participants are invited to express their vision of women/men equality with a caption to be produced on an A4 size sheet maximum format. Only one side of the sheet shall be used.
Caption should either be in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish language, and shall not exceed five lines. The caption has to appear on the same side as the drawing.
The complete name and age of the child should be written at the back of the drawing, together with his/her grade level and class pod/section and the address of the school.
Entries will be judged based on relevance to the theme - 50 percent, technique - 25 percent, and composition - 25 percent. Any medium may be used.
The top 10 entries chosen will be submitted to the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium to compete with children from other countries.
Deadline for submission of entries is on April 30, either by hand or by mail, to the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines located at the 30th Floor of the RCBC Plaza Tower II, 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City. The awarding ceremony is scheduled on May 8 at The Podium.
The drawing contest is in collaboration with the National Council on the Role of Filipino Women and other partners and stakeholders of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines.
The competition is in keeping with the celebration of Women's Month and in line with the European Union's commitment expressed in the "European Consensus on Development" to strengthen gender equality mainstreaming. - Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV
