After celebrating birthday with family: Student shot dead in front of girlfriend

-
A sophomore college student, who just came from his birthday celebration in his house, was shot to death in front of his girlfriend near a restobar at the corner of Escario Extension and Acacia Street in barangay Camputhaw the other night.

The victim, 19-year-old Jude Dominic Villano and resident of barangay Busay, was shot once in the back and died a few minutes later in a private hospital.

Police reports said Villano was with his girlfriend, 19-year-old nursing student Laarni Gomez, and they were on their way to join their friends who were drinking inside the restobar when attacked.

The reports also stated that Villano, was allegedly a member of the Alpha Kappa Rho and that he and Gomez were supposed to join his fraternity brothers, one of who was named as Mark Dumalig who was the one who rushed the victim to the hospital.

Dumalig told the police that they were not expecting Villano to join them at the restorbar because he said earlier that, after celebrating his birthday with his family, he and his girlfriend would go somewhere else.

Gomez told homicide investigator PO3 Rogelio Nedamo that his boyfriend had decided to go to the restobar and join his "brothers" there instead.

She also described the gunman as about 5'7" or 5'8" in height, of medium built, and wore a body-hugging black T-shirt and denims. She added that he approached and shot Villano from behind before fleeing.

Homicide investigators have yet to identify the killer and determine if the killing had something to do with the violent rivalry between two fraternities. - Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
