In his letter to regional police director Silverio Alarcio, Comendador said he wanted SPO1 Reynaldo Omaña and PO2 Fredilson Codilla be given an award for their arrest of Raymund Cabiles.
Cabiles is one of the three suspects in the killing of Mariano Malinog and the wounding of his wife, Medarda, during a robbery in barangay Tan-awan, Carcar on February 16. The robbery happened after the couple sold 25 hogs during a trade fair in barangay Mantalongon in Barili town on that day.
Comendador said although the crime happened outside their jurisdiction, the two policemen have exerted efforts for the solution of the case.
"By the successful arrest of the suspect, SPO1 Omaña and PO2 Codilla showed professionalism par excellence, dedication to duty and meritorious service worthy of emulation by others; hence this request for the issuance of appropriate awards for a job well done," Comendador said in his letter.
Both Omaña and Codilla arrested Cabiles after Omaña received information that the suspect was hiding in his aunt's house in barangay Cabangcalan in Mandaue City. The two then turned over Cabiles to the Carcar Police station.
During his arrest, Cabiles identified his cohorts in the robbery as Jun-jun Aldemita and a certain Roel, who are still at large.
Stressing he was only tricked into participating the robbery, Cabiles said his two friends boarded his motorcycle and told him to follow the multicab boarded by the couple.
The suspects carted away at least P50,000 from the couple and then shot the victims. Charges for robbery with homicide were already filed against the suspects in court. - Flor Z. Perolina/LPM
