Gullas Hospital cited for free services

-
The Cebu Provincial Board lauded the Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital and the Inday Pining Family Medical Clinic for giving indigent patients free medical services. The medical mission was conducted on the occasion of the 102nd birth anniversary of Dona Josefina "Inday Pining" Gullas, the matriarch of the University of the Visayas.

Provincial Board member Victor Maambong, who authored the resolution, congratulated the staff of the hospital and the school.

"The medical services offered to indigent patients are worthy of appreciation by this august body," Maambong said in his proposed resolution, which was co-sponsored by board members Agnes Magpale and Alfred Francis Ouano.

The outreach program offered bone screening for those 40-years old and above, circumcision, pap smear, blood sugar screening and cholesterol screening. The hospital's Department of Opthalmology, in cooperation with the Philippine Cataract Foundation, also conducted free operations.

Just recently University of the Visayas executive vice president Jose "Dodong" Gullas also launched the first Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital privilege health card for students.

Dodong, the youngest son of Don Vicente and Doña Josefina, said the privilege health card with a minimum value of P575 entitles the enrollee access to certain laboratory services such as blood sugar screening, urine analysis, and chest X-ray, among many others, on an annual physical examination.

Aside from these, the enrollee can avail of a one-year free consultation at the hospital's Out-Patient Department, 10 percent discount on hospital rooms and board, 10 percent discount on individual laboratory procedures and five-percent for X-ray. - Garry B. Lao/MEEV
