An alleged member of the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity was shot dead by a neighbor who is a member of their rival fraternity, the Tau Gamma Phi, in a vacant portion of Kimaw Paray Compound, barangay Kasambagan yesterday dawn.
Homicide investigators said that the victim, Carlos Colina alias "Jingkoy", 32, a resident of the said place, was killed instantly when shot in the side of his head with the slug exiting from the top.
His alleged assailant who was identified as Dexter Romeo, 25, an alleged member of Tau Gamma Phi, immediately escaped after the shooting.
Based on the investigation of SPO2 Rey Cuyos of the Homicide Section the victim was seen heading home on his bicycle but when he reached the said place the suspect confronted him.
According to the police, the victim and the alleged assailant got into an argument and later a gunshot was heard.
When the neighbors came to check Romeo was nowhere to be found while the victim is already lying on his back beside his bicycle.
Police have yet to ascertain if the motive is personal but they suspect that the rivalry of their respective fraternities might be involved in the incident.
The rivalry of both fraternities started many years ago and has already claimed the lives of many of their members as well as innocent people who are either mistakenly identified as members of either group or unwittingly caught in the crossfire. - Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
