In the Kapamilya Media Forum held at the SM Entertainment Plaza, Martinez said the presence of civic groups and other religious organizations in the Fourth District will prevent any untoward incidents, like what happened in the 2004 elections.
"Lisod man kaayo kun military kay usahay dili na man kalikayan nga duna silay paboran. It could be better nga mga civic groups like Rotary, Jaycees, Lions kay sila maoy mo-observe aron peaceful pa ang lugar," Martinez said.
There were reports that the May 14 elections in Madridejos will see entrepreneur Sally Dela Fuente challenging reelectionist Mayor Letty Mancio.
In the 2004 elections, a shooting occurred between military officer, Staff Sgt. Mario Benito and town police chief SPO4 Arsenio Escarda after a heated argument over the arrest of a civilian allegedly carrying guns.
Meanwhile, Provincial Board member Jose Maria Gastardo of the fourth district called on the Cebu Provincial Police Office to investigate reports that armed men have been seen in Daanbantayan or in Madridejos.
"I don't want violence to happen again this coming election," Gastardo said referring to the killing of a supporter of Daanbantayan Mayor Maria Luisa Loot in the last elections. - Ramil V. Ayuman/RAE
