MAYOR OSMEÑA SAYS: Sugbuak will prosper once Sonny O wins

Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday warned Cebuanos that the move to divide Cebu into four provinces would be realized once former senator John "Sonny" Osmeña will win in the next elections.
The mayor reminded the voters, particularly those who are against the "Sugbuak" bills, not to commit a mistake by voting for Sonny, who is his cousin, in the May 14 elections.
He criticized Sonny, who was included in the senatorial lineup of the opposition, for using the slogan "Tatak Osmeña" even as he described the former senator as anti-Osmeña and anti-Cebu.
The mayor believed that his cousin would lose even in his own precinct because Cebuanos will not support him after he sided with then President Joseph Estrada and announced that: "Uwanon ang Cebu sa mga proyekto."
Mayor Osmeña also believed that Sonny was behind the move to convert the Cebu's third congressional district into Occidental Cebu.
The three pending bills that would carve three more provinces out of Cebu were sponsored by third district Rep. Antonio Yapha, second district Rep. Simeon Kintanar and fourth district Rep. Clavel Asas-Martinez.
Yapha moved to convert his district into Occidental Cebu, Kintanar wanted the second district to become the Cebu del Sur while Martinez sought to make her district the Cebu del Norte. - Rene U. Borromeo/LPM
