Man found with drugs in Banilad checkpoint

-
A 28-year-old man ended up in jail after police allegedly found seven packs of suspected shabu in his pocket when he was frisked at a checkpoint along Archbishop Reyes Avenue, barangay Banilad, yesterday noon.

The Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office identified the suspect as Elmo Pegarido, a resident of sitio Sacres, Banilad, Mandaue City.

CIIB personnel led by PO3 Gerard Cui were conducting a checkpoint along Archbishop Reyes Avenue when the jeepney Pegarido was riding passed by.

During the search the policemen noticed him acting suspiciously and asked him to empty his pockets, leading to the discovery of the shabu.

The suspect told reporters that he was just asked by someone in his barangay to buy the drugs in barangay Luz for P1,500. He, however refused to say who asked him to buy the illegal drugs.

The suspect, who has four children, claimed he does errands for drug pushers in their area to feed his family.

Sr. Insp. Wilbert Parilla deputy chief of the CIIB, told reporters that the worth of the shabu seized from the suspect will increase if it was eventually repacked in smaller sizes. - Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
