PDEA regional director Amado Marquez said that requiring candidates to submit themselves to a drug test would ensure that elected officials are free from illegal drug use.
"That is logical and legitimate ang purpose ng drug test," Marquez said.
PDEA said candidates found positive of illegal drug use will be charged aside from being disqualified from running for public office.
The Comelec has issued a resolution requiring all candidates to submit a drug test certificate as provided for under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. The Comelec vowed to conduct a shame campaign against candidates who will not submit himself or herself to a drug test.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who will seek reelection, is willing to submit herself to a drug test as simple way of determining the suitability of the candidates vying for a position.
