1 dead, 1 wounded in two quarrels between relatives

Two quarrels between relatives ended in stabbing incidents the other day.

In Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, 56-year-old Carlito Tura Daño, a guitar maker, stabbed to death with a chisel his 32-year-old nephew, Alexander Mangubat.

Mangubat got hit on his left chest and was taken to the Mactan Doctors Hospital where the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.

The suspected assailant, Daño, surrendered to responding tanods. He is now detained at the city detention cell waiting for his indictment.

Lapu-Lapu City Police homicide section chief, Insp. Francisco Baguio, yesterday told The FREEMAN that the stabbing was a result of a miscommunication between the Daño and his nephew.

Daño, who admitted he was drunk at the time of the incident, told the police he got mad after finding out that someone used and damaged his tools for guitar-making. He then asked his workers about it and it was then that Mangubat, who was also drunk at that time, got into an argument with him.

Daño said he never accused Mangubat of using his tools but the latter argued with him, which resulted him to stabbing Mangubat.

Daño repeatedly told the police he "blacked out" but did not intend to kill his nephew. He felt sorry upon learning of what he had done.

Meanwhile in Maslog, Danao City, 42-year-old Joey Laurito Mendoza stabbed and wounded his cousin, 38-year-old Reynaldo Mendoza, who is also his "kumpare" and neighbor.

Reynaldo was wounded on his right chest and was taken to the Danao District Hospital. He was moved later to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Investigators led by SPO2 Matias Galo, said Reynaldo and Joey had a few drinks inside the victim's house, when the two got into a heated altercation. This prompted Joey to go home but, moments later, he returned.

It was almost midnight when Joey knocked on Reynaldo's house. When the latter opened the door, however, Joey stabbed him with a knife.

Responding policemen arrested Joey who is now detained at the police station while Reynaldo already got out of the hospital.
