2 men stabbed by their brothers

Two men landed in the hospital after being stabbed by their brothers in two separate incidents in Lapu-Lapu City the past two days.

Around 8:00 a.m. on Friday in sitio Ylaya, barangay Marigondon, 29-year-old Ruben Espinosa sustained a wound in the back after being stabbed by his older brother, Efren, 38, a caretaker of a beach resort.

PO1 Roberto Rondina yesterday told The FREEMAN that investigation conducted by PO3 Manolito Abellanosa of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim allegedly created trouble at a store owned by the suspect.

An argument ensued when the suspect tried to pacify the victim, leading him to stab the victim once in the back.

The victim is now confined at the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while the suspect immediately fled after the incident.

Meanwhile, woodcarver Roderico Rio, 42, was rushed to the Mactan Doctors' Hospital after being stabbed by his older brother, Eugenio, 47, also a woodcarver, in sitio Parola, barangay Ibo at dawn yesterday.

Homicide investigators disclosed that Roderico and Eugenio, who were drunk at the time, had an altercation that prompted the suspect to stab the victim.

The victim, who was hit in the abdomen, hands and head, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital while the suspect is still at large.

Rondina said follow-up operations are still conducted against both suspects. - Normie S. Misa/LPM
